Travel to Tarnow

Read about and get inspiration for a trip to the city, check for the cheapest flights and hotels in Tarnow

Tarnow is one of the warmest towns in all of Poland, and it is not just because of the weather. You’ll find one of the best-preserved Old Towns here, with tenements, defensive walls, and housing all dating to the 16th century. You’ll find a definite Renaissance flavor to the experience, thanks to the town hall from the 14th century and the 16th century tenement house.

Visit the Diocesan Museum during your stay. It’s the oldest museum of its type in Poland and contains an exhibit of guild art, with Gothic sculptures, along with paintings from the region. Vestments, covers, and other religious textiles are on display from as early as the Middle Ages.

The Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrow is one of the most important religious sites in the city. Go there to see the sculptures from the Renaissance, along with monuments to the important families of the city. There are also two wooden churches in the city to explore, built as early as 1458.

If you want to learn more about the city itself, then the Tarnow District Museum makes for a wonderful tour. There are fragments of the Transylvania Panorama on display in the museum, along with artifacts recovered from the region, as part of the permanent exhibition.

You’ll find that almost all the attractions are within walking distance of each other. Tarnow has also created several walking routes to help you enjoy everything the town offers. If you have the time, take the Renaissance Route to the ruins of Tarnowski Castle on St. Martin Hill. No matter what trail you take, you will discover the spirit which has kept this city strong for so long.
