San Jose, called the capital of Silicon Valley, is one of the biggest cities in the United States driven by technology. It’s located within striking distance of cities like San Francisco and Monterey, but you’ll have plenty to do within city limits. Great museums and art galleries house stunning collections, while the northern tip of the city sits on the Bay, providing stunning ocean views and a whole new frontier of amusement options.

San Jose’s many districts are clean and modern. Downtown is full of green space, and free Wi-Fi covers most of the district, so you’ll have no problem accessing rave reviews of city dining on the web. Berryessa, the North Valley, is home to a popular Art and Wine Festival that has been a regional tradition for over 30 years. The Rose Garden neighborhood, as the name suggests, contains an amazing collection of flowers, numbering in the thousands.

San Jose has many great museums, covering such distinct areas as technology and Egyptian history. The Children’s Discovery Museum, considered one of the top children’s museums in the nation and world, sees hundreds of thousands of guests each year. Incredible interactive exhibits teach kids about science with a hands-on approach.

The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum features incredible architecture and one of the largest collections of Egyptian artifacts in North America. From exhibits on mummies to daily life, the institute provides a fascinating look at all facets of Egyptian life. The Tech Museum of Innovation features incredible exhibits that allow visitors to build robots, an IMAX theater, and more.

The San Jose Flea Market is a must see for any visitor. It’s the largest open-air market in America, seeing over four million shoppers every year. There are more vendors than you could hope to see in a day, with about 8 miles of aisles housing over 2000 vendors. Everything from jewelry to produce to cars is sold at the Flea Market, which also has great restaurants, stages for live music, and carnival rides for the little ones.

San Jose’s park system is extensive, offering ample opportunity for outdoor enjoyment. Alum Rock Park, one of the largest in America, has a beautiful creek, springs, a science institute, and habitat for deer, foxes, quail, and more. Another popular park area is the Overfelt Gardens. Three lakes, walking trails, and a Chinese Cultural Garden contribute to the charm of the gardens.

One of San Jose’s most popular attractions is the Winchester Mystery House. This mansion was the home of Sarah Winchester, who claimed that the house was haunted. According to her paranormal experiences, the only way to appease the ghosts was to have the house continuously added to. Thus, the mansion underwent constant construction for years-with a price tag in the millions. Today, you can tour the mansion and grounds and decide whether it’s haunted yourself.
