Located in central Cuba, Santa Clara was founded in the late 17th century by just 175 people. Two large families were already in the region and a few other families came to settle on the surrounding lands.
Over the years, many people have discovered the inescapable beauty that is offered here and have decided to call it home.
During your stay in Santa Clara, you’ll find that Parque Vidal tends to be the place where everyone gathers to check-in with one another. Traditionally, the custom was to walk around the park several times, with stages setup for playing the guitar and other forms of improvised music. Although the traditions have faded away, the beauty of the park has not.
Santa Clara is also the home to a mausoleum where Che Guevara and 16 combatants were killed during the Bolivia Campaign. As part of the complex, you can see a reconstruction of the Battle of Santa Clara when Guevara derailed a train.
As you stroll along the pedestrian boulevard in the city, you’ll find an eclectic series of architectural offerings to explore. Hidden gems can be found everywhere, with flower vendors and other carts sprinkled in here and there.
A final stop at the Museum of Decorative Arts is worth the time investment during your stay. It is filled with luxury decorative items, from furniture to porcelain, with it all having a distinctive Cuban flair.
