Travel to San Juan

A vacation to San Juan City in the heart of Argentinean wine country is sure to be an unforgettable experience. The wonderfully warm climate allows you to take advantage of everything the city has to offer while enjoying the sunshine. Whether you want to spend your time in the city itself sampling the endless verities of local beer, wine and food, or venture into the outskirts to have an adventure in the mountains or natural parks, a San Juan City vacation is a fantastic option for travelers looking for a unique and exciting experience.

There is a wide variety of hotel options in different neighborhoods available to make sure your San Juan City vacation is as enjoyable as possible. Romantic and historic old San Juan is as picturesque as any European capital with its fantastic architecture and cobblestone streets. Within the walls of the old city there are dozens of chic restaurants and hotels as well as unique “boutique” museums. The quiet university neighborhood of Río Piedras offers a retreat from the sizzling nightlife and busting heart of the city. The open market here every Saturday is often crowded, but otherwise it is the perfect spot to take a quiet stroll in the sun and admire the university and botanical gardens.

Best of San Juan

What to see and do in San Juan ?

Although it is a capital city, San Juan moves at a much slower pace than most, and a vacation there is a truly enjoyable treat. There is nothing more relaxing than a trip to the capital of Argentinean wine country. You can spend your entire San Juan City vacation sipping wine in the sun if you want to.

There is certainly no shortage of restaurants and bars in the city limits to tempt your palate. There’s even a wine museum where you can educate yourself while sampling select vintages. The Cavas de Zonda are worth a visit for champagne connoisseurs; the champagne maker boasts the only “cellar in mountain” in the world, located in the region’s natural caves.

The city itself was founded in 1562, but the province’s history reaches much farther back than that. Remains of the areas earliest inhabitants, Triassic dinosaurs, can be viewed at the Marian Gambier Archaeology Museum, a delightful day with the kids. The museum showcases the region’s ancient history, starting back in the days of the dinosaurs up to the arrival of the Spanish conquistadors.

One of the largest dinosaur fossil collections in the world was unearthed in Ischigualasto Provincial Park, which is definitely worth a visit during your stay. There is no better place to admire the region’s astounding natural beauty.

The rock formations create a surreal landscape from another era where you might expect to catch a glimpse of a triceratops at any moment. A day outside the city can be spent exploring the parks and mountains, or even trying your hand at wind surfing or horseback riding.

A vacation to San Juan is sure to offer just enough adventure to keep things exciting while ensuring you have a relaxing retreat from your daily routine. There’s no other place where you can enjoy wine tastings in the sunshine at the foot of the mountains and admire prehistoric landscapes by the moonlight.
