Travel to Omis

Omis is located in one of Croatia’s most stunning locations. Found where the Cetina River comes to the Adriatic Sea, it is a city with an extensive history that is an integral part of the story of the Dalmatian Coast.

Although the natural landscapes are stunning, a visit to Omis often focuses upon the Fortress of Mirabella. The pirates in the region used to use this fortress as a lookout over the channel. That made it impossible for any merchants to sail through the area without being noticed. Coins found in the foundation of the fortress date it to the 13th century.

As you explore the narrow streets of the city, eventually you’ll come across a charming little home that is treasured by one and all. It is called the “House of a Happy Man.” Not much is known about the owner of the home, but the house has been beautifully preserved and is an excellent example of Venetian-era Dalmatian architecture.

The 10th century Church of St. Peter is another masterpiece that must be toured. Underneath the backdrop of a massive monolith, this small church speaks of the identity of the city. Pair up a visit with a trip to the old cemetery and the main market, Poljica Square, to get a good feel for the local culture. Several additional churches from the 15th and 16th centuries are available to tour as well, such as the Church of St. Rocco.

Omis is a terrific destination for any holiday, but it is particularly good for those looking to experience a little bit of culture. The most well-known festival in Omis is the Festival of Dalmatian Klapas. This festival is known for the groups of men and women singing, art exhibits, concerts and recitals. If you’re interested in visiting a museum, then spend a day at the Vis Archaeological Collection, which is home to the largest collection of Hellenistic objects exposed in one place in all of Croatia. It is a great day out and something the cultural buffs won’t want to miss.

Omis is well regarded for its wonderful Mediterranean cuisine. Serving only the freshest caught fish, olive oil and their passion of wine, you won’t want to miss what’s on the menu in Omis. Filled with restaurants, cafés and wine bars, Omis is the perfect holiday destination for couples looking for a special holiday. There are a number of terrific Mediterranean restaurants with fresh olive oil and fish caught the same day. Wine is a favourite in Omis and visiting one of the wine bars is a must. While in Omis you’ll want to pay a visit to Bistro Babilo, or Restoran Pod Odrnom for an authentic Omis cuisine.

Omis offers stunning views. There are adventures that are awaiting your right now. The only thing you need to do is accept the invitation.
