What to see and do in Mount Isa ?

Mount Isa is predominantly hot all year round, so make sure you keep your skin protected from the sun. The summer season is quite hot with on and off rainfall and humidity. The best time of year to visit would be either side of the Summer months in Spring or Autumn.

There are a great number of attractions to see in Mt Isa, the most popular amongst tourists and locals alike is the ‘Outback of Isa’ museum where you can have a hands on experience of the history and current world of mining, pioneering and local history.

History lover will delight in a visit to Mt Isa’s heritage listed sites. Some of these wonder-inducing locations include Camooweal Street with an old hospital located directly underneath it.

There are some great day trips in and around Mt Isa. Lake Moondarra is situated just 20km north of the city centre of Mount Isa. Access to the lake is accessed by a sealed road and offers a picturesque shoreline drive. Make sure you take time to read the global signpost with city names and distances to all parts of the world. For a romantic evening and a light display like no other, head to the Hilary Lookout for panoramic and glittery views of the Mt Isa Mine at night.

The burial place of John Campbell Miles, Mt Isa’s founder, is an inspiring place to visit. The statue of the man pays tribute to the huge impact he had on one of Australia’s key resources, the mining industry, which would not be the same without him – a must for those fascinated by this countries history.

Mt Isa has a great number of festivals and events held throughout the year.
