Travel to Malmoe

Read about and get inspiration for a trip to the city, check for the cheapest flights and hotels in Malmoe

Located on the very southern tip of Sweden, Malmoe is known as being one of the earliest settlements in Sweden. Malmoe is the capital of the province of Skane, in the 16th century it was a major fishing port, competing with Copenhagen as Scandinavia`s most influential city. Today Malmoe is one of the most industrialized towns in all of Scandinavia, but that doesn’t mean the town is clogged with pollution. Far from it, as the town is consistently recognized as being one of the greenest cities in the world.

Today Malmoe attracts high tech industries and is transforming itself into a future leader of tomorrow’s fields of research and development. Are you planning a trip to Malmoe in the near future? If you are, then we’ve put together some essential recommendations for you to consider adding to your itinerary. Let’s take a look.

A Beach? In Malmoe? Absolutely!

Who says you have to go to a tropical location to go enjoy a day at the beach? When you’re in Malmoe, one of your first stops on a gorgeous day must be the Ribersborg. Also known as the Ribban, it’s a man-made beach that is southwest of the harbor that stretches on down the coastline. It’s a shallow beach, which makes it perfect to enjoy, even if the day is just a tad bit chilly!

Once you’ve enjoy some time in the sun, our next recommendation is to head over to the old Rooseum building where the Moderna Museet, or the Modern Museum, opened up an outpost in Malmoe in 2009. Even though it is just an outpost, you’re still getting the opportunity to view some of the classical works by some of the world’s greatest painters, including Dali, Picasso, Matisse, Duchamp, and Rauschenberg. If you have a little extra time left in your day, the Konsthall is also worth a visit as it is one of the largest exhibition halls in all of Europe that features contemporary art.

How Can You Go Wrong On the Boardwalk?

On a Summer’s day, the Boardwalk in Malmoe is always the place to be because that’s where the action is. It’s often habituated by a very energetic student community, so don’t be surprised if you’re invited to have a role in a spontaneous party that’s going on! It’s also a popular place for public bathing, if you don’t mind getting a little extra social with a stranger or two down by the Western Harbor.

If it is in the later Summer months that you happen to be planning a visit, then you may wish to schedule yourself in during the third week of August. This is when the Malmoe Festival takes place and it is a celebration of everyone and everything that makes this city so great! You’ll be able to sample plenty of cuisine from local restaurants  while enjoying literally hundreds of events that give you a glimpse into the local culture and flair that makes this city such a wonderful place to visit.

Are You Ready To Visit Malmoe?

From the Turning Torso, the skyscraper that has become Malmoe’s latest landmark to the many green spaces that will let you find a tranquil peace on a busy day, this city has much to offer you. Consider these recommendations for your next visit and you’ll be able to embrace the very soul that makes this city one of the world’s best.
