City A - Z
Krasnoyarsk is often described as the most beautiful city in Siberia and it is easy to see why. Standing guard to the south are forested mountains, breathtaking cliffs, and natural wonders that beckon explorers to come visit.
The city was founded in 1628 as a fort thanks to its location at the confluence of two rivers. It has been a city where political exiles were sent, industrial facilities were built, and aluminum production has been the economic lifeblood of the population.
Its location makes it the perfect getaway from the heat of summer. Krasnoyarsk rarely sees temperatures above 17C, but June and July do offer more sunshine than one might expect from a northerly location.
What makes the city so beautiful is its emphasis on creating flower monuments. In the summer, you’ll find large monuments of up to 5 meters in height throughout the city. Bears, giraffes, and grandfather clocks are just some of the monuments that are created.
There are 3 excellent museums in Krasnoyarsk to consider touring during your stay. The Vasily Surikov Museums are based out of the home of this painter who would become a member of the National Academy of the Arts. The Culture and History Center features local events and exhibits and sometimes offers a free entry. Then the Krasnoyarsk Regional Museum offers an Egyptian motif and archeological artifacts.
Krasnoyarsk offers natural wonders, fun festivals, and beautiful streets to roam as you explore. It is a fantastic destination to choose if you wish to explore some of the best that Russia offers.
