Travel to Heilbronn

Read about and get inspiration for a trip to the city, check for the cheapest flights and hotels in Heilbronn

You can find Heilbronn in southern Germany and many people come to visit this community because of its location in one of the country’s prime wine regions. Salt was mined in this area starting from the ancient times and the Romans took notice of this as well. Around the early 3rd century it became part of the Frankish Empire and the community changed hands several more times over the centuries.

Because of this history, there are some exciting opportunities to get out and explore! What would you love to do with your visit to Heilbronn? Here are just a few ways that you can fill up the days of your trip to this lovely community.

Visit the Trademark of the City and You’ll Be Amazed!

The Renaissance architecture on St. Kilian’s Church is the trademark of the city and this church has roots that go back as far as the 11th century. The towers of this church are some of the most remarkable that you’ll find anywhere in Germany and the stained glass by Charles Crodel is a modern addition to the church that lends much to the atmosphere.

There’s also a historic manual crane in the green space of Heilbronn right along the water that will be fun for the whole family. Enjoy a beautiful day, experiment with the crane, and just enjoy a quiet, peaceful time together as the world passes you by.

There are a number of museums in Heilbronn that are worth a visit, depending on what your personal preferences happen to be. The Museum of Natural History has an emphasis on the local region, but takes a look at a picture of the world as a whole as well for you. The Archaeological Museum looks at some of the changes that Heilbronn has seen over the years and the Train Museum is an intimate look at the railroad industry.

Find a Unique Story At the Old Cemetery of Heilbronn

The old cemetery was in Heilbronn was first established in the 16th century and then was converted into a park in the late 19th century. Nearly 6,500 people were killed in an air raid on the train station in town in 1944 and they are remembered here, as is an ex-pat American soldier who is buried there. Amongst Nazi graves sits an American flag every Veteran’s Day, a unique story indeed for this well kept cemetery. Many families lost entire branches that day, showing the hidden side of war that is not often told.

To get a good view of Heilbronn, you may wish to climb the viewing tower that is on Wartberg Hill. The entire region spills out for you in an amazing way and creates a wonderful photographic opportunity. Finish off the visit with a short stroll around the Trappensee to see the small water castle and you’ll have the perfect day.

What would you do if you could spend a few days in Heilbronn? These are just a few ideas to include on your amazing journey. Plan your time here and you’ll have a wonderful time!
