About Gladstone

The City

This part of Queensland is home to some of the finest beaches in the whole state, so make sure you include a visit to the golden sands and the blue waters as often as possible during your time here. With average temperatures between 20C and 30C from October to April you’re likely to want to take a dip in the ocean on more than one occasion, if only to give your body a chance to cool down.

One of the reasons for the popularity of Gladstone and the surrounding coastline is the easy access to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. No holiday to this destination is surely complete without a trip out to the reef, especially if you plan to do a little snorkelling in order to get a closer view of the coral. Needless to say, if you just want to see this natural wonder from the comfort of a boat that certainly won’t be a problem.

The Queensland coast plays host to a number of fascinating islands which are always worthy of exploration, and just a short distance from the heart of Gladstone lies one of the most impressive of them all. Curtis Island is home to some wonderful, and pleasingly unspoilt, beaches, a sparkling blue ocean and several square kilometres of wilderness. A day spent here is likely to become one of the highlights of the whole holiday.

Gladstone and the surrounding towns and villages have a great deal of heritage, and for many tourists it can be great fun to find out more about the past. One of the more intriguing attractions is the Calliope River Historical Village, which gives you a fascinating insight into how life was lived here in the past.

Where is Gladstone ?

One of many spectacular seaside resorts on the Queensland coast, Gladstone is a popular destination for holiday-makers of all ages. Located some 550 kilometres north of Brisbane and around 100 kilometres south of Rockhampton, it boasts an eye-catching natural harbour and a myriad of exciting and enjoyable activities.

Where to stay in Gladstone ?

The city has been welcoming visitors for many years, and because of this you will find some excellent Gladstone accommodation choices throughout the area. Close to the idyllic marina there are a number of establishments, especially around Glenlyon Street and Hanson Road.

Further afield, locations such as Calliope and Tangnum Sands are also home to a number of hotels, guesthouses and bed and breakfasts. In addition, there are several places close to the main A1 road going south towards the beautiful Mount Colosseum National Park which offer a relaxing stay to the south of Gladstone itself.
