Cluj-Napoca, though it is commonly just known as Cluj, is one of the important educational and industrial centers in all of Romania.

After suffering a decade of decline in the 1990’s, the city has rebounded to become the second most populous city in the country thanks to its new focus on innovative technological developments. There have been various incarnations of a developed city at Cluj since Roman times, though the city has it is today has been around since the 13th century. Often the site of revolutionary action, the heart of the city is St. Michael’s Church and it then spreads out from there. Why should people visit Cluj-Napoca? Because of its independent spirit, the city has developed into a European jewel.

The Botanical Gardens Are World Class

Officially the Cluj-Napoca University Botanical Gardens, also named after Alexandru Borza, these are actually several different gardens with different stylings instead of one overall large garden. There’s a Japanese garden that features a traditional house and stream, a Roman garden that contain actual archaeological remains from the colony of Napoca, and both are in addition to the primary garden. The primary garden itself is divided into sections based on the usage of the plants – for example, if they are ornamental or used for medicinal purposes. With local and international flair, it’s always a good time to visit the Botanical Gardens in Cluj.

If You Want to Hike, Then Hike Turda Gorge

With rocky pillars towering above your head, green fields as far as the eye can see, and easy to walk trails, if you want to get out of Cluj for a day, Turda Gorge is the place to do it. Especially nice on a warm day because the gorge area stays cooler in all seasons, you’ll find a spectacular walk awaiting you. It can be slippery when raining, which can make some parts of the park treacherous at times, so use caution in potentially adverse weather. Also make sure to pack out your trash – there are no facilities on site.

Enjoy Nightlife In Style at the Theater

One of the iconic buildings in Cluj is the Theater. Host to both operas and contemporary plays, stick to the operas if you plan on bringing your family due to the subject matter of the plays. Tickets are highly affordable and at night, the building is splendidly lit. The interior of the theater is richly decorated and it all leads to a very memorable experience, especially considering the performances match international standards of excellence.

Are You Ready to Visit Cluj-Napoca?

Easily one of the most beautiful cities you’ll visit, the progress that Cluj has seen is only the tip of the iceberg of what the city plans to be in the near future. Be sure to bring comfortable shoes and plan on doing lots of walking – not only will it help you burn off the rich foods you’ll be eating, but it’ll also help you explore the city in a wonderful way. Why should people visit Cluj-Napoca? Because you can have a pastry, enjoy a nice day, and have a most pleasant time.
