Most people know about Billund because it is the headquarters of the LEGO group.

Even the airport in Billund was built by the LEGO group in 1964 to accommodate the company’s needs, but the airport is run independently. The first LEGOLAND theme park is located in Billund and on the outskirts of town sits the factory that manufactures almost 90% of the toys that hit the market around the world. Even though this community barely clears a population of 6,000, a toy company is not the only reason to visit here.

If you’ve got Billund in your sights for a stop, then here are a few more ideas to help you fill out your holiday in this small community.

Take a Tour of the Sculpture Park

So there is no doubt that if you’ve done a search on Billund, you’ve encountered a lot of websites and reviews about all of the toy themed activities that you can do during a visit. What isn’t often mentioned is that there is a wonderful little sculpture park in this community that will let you get out and enjoy a warm, sunny day. It’s out in a field and there’s a small pond in the area, so be careful, but it is definitely worth the stop! And yes, you’ll find a LEGO statue there too…

You’ll also find a lot of souvenirs for sale in Billund to commemorate your trip, but get something for yourself while there that fits your style just a little more. Huset Olhom makes some fantastic scarves in the traditions of Nordic weaving, but uses modern designs for a very contemporary look. Many of the items are made with silk yarn, creating unique artistic pieces that will definitely enhance your style and make you smile.

Adult Food in a Kid Paradise?

There are plenty of opportunities to pick up some kid-friendly fare while staying in Billund. From the Pancake House to the Pirate Inn, you’ll see a lot of smiles on faces! Make sure that you try the LEGO French fries while you’re in town. Not only will they be a favorite of the kids, but they’ll win you over as well!

If you’re looking for more of an authentic Danish dining experience, we highly recommend the Restaurant Oz. You’ll find a number of traditional Danish items on the menu and their seasonal three-course meal is always a winner. There’s a daily two-course dinner and if nothing else, you can also order a steak that’s as big as your face and come out feeling like a winner.

Billund might be a kid paradise, but you’ll find that there are a number of options for you to enjoy as well. Include these ideas on your itinerary so that you can enjoy LEGOLAND and everything else this small community has to offer!
