Arad shares a name with other communities around the world, but this Romanian town has a character all its own. First mentioned in the 11th century, it is one of the industrial hubs of the country and sits just off of the Hungarian border. It isn’t the most popular tourist destination, but that’s your gain and their loss because there are a number of interesting exploration opportunities for you to enjoy.

If you’re ready to get off the beaten path of Europe for a few days to explore something new and exciting, then Arad is the place to go. If your plans include Arad soon, here are a few ideas for your to consider adding to your journey so you can enjoy all of the essentials that this city has to offer.

Reconciliation Park Is Just One Stop On the Journey

Instead of just your standard park space, Reconciliation Park is a monument park that holds two incredible statutes. The first, which is called the Statue of Liberty, was erected in the late 19th century to honor 13 Hungarian generals that were executed when they rose up for independence. The second, which is an Arch of Triumph, was built just a decade ago to remember Romanians that were killed fighting for the same independence.

As you journey through the history of Asad, the next stop at the Archaeological and History Museum is a logical follow-up. Although the museum and rather modest compared to some of its counterparts, it offers an authentic look at the complex foundations that the city is built upon – including the years of Ottoman rule.

A final stop is generally at the Town Hall, a U-shaped building that was built in 1876. There’s a large clock that adorns the top of the building which was purchased from the Swiss two years after the building’s completion. It is easily the most impressive building in Arad.

Enjoy a Cool Summer Breeze on a Warm Evening

For a taste of local cuisine on a warm evening, the Perla Muresului offers you a terrace right on the river. Much of the menu is based on traditional Romanian dishes that have a bit of an upscale flair to them, but without the gourmet sizes or prices. It’s a festive environment that offers you a laid back, mellow experience that is quite enjoyable.

To finish off your trip to Arad, a warm day deserves a cool experience and that’s exactly what you’ll get at the Neptune Water Park. The pools there are clean, the grounds are sprawling, and it’s the perfect place to bring grumpy children thanks to the smaller kiddie pools. There’s also a nice thermal pool that is quite popular in the area.

Are you ready to experience the best of what Arad has to offer? Include these ideas to fill out your itinerary and you’ll be certain to have an excellent holiday in this incredible city!
