Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Guyana is a beautiful introduction to the cultures of South America. It may be one of the smallest countries on the continental mainland, but that doesn’t limit the holiday opportunities that are available here.

Originally a Dutch colony, it became a British possession in the 19th century. Workers from Asia came in around the same time, which has allowed a unique Creole culture to develop here.

A visit to Guyana must include Kaieteur Falls. The water drops more than 250 meters and the only way to really access the area is via a short airplane flight. Several tour companies offer day trips that can be book as part of your holiday. When the sun catches the falls just right, you can see triple rainbows. Try Orinduik Falls as well during your stay.

Mashramani is another stop that must be included on any Guyana itinerary. The word means “celebration after hard work.” The festival is held on February 23 every year and the event is similar to a Carnival celebration. Parades, cultural costumes, and concerts are everywhere.

Make your way to Shell Beach and its conservation area for a unique experience as well. Three different turtle species use the beach as their nesting grounds. It is an excellent option for those who love to encounter wildlife.

You’ll find water parks that offer fun, mountains that offer an adventure, and beaches that offer relaxation in Guyana. It is a land of paradise that is waiting for you to come for a visit.

Georgetown, capital of Guyana

There may be many notable cities named Georgetown around the world, but only one of them is the Garden City of the Caribbean. Serving as the capital of Guyana, it offers unique wooden colonial buildings to see, spaced between the various government and business seats of power. One can also use Georgetown as a way to launch excursions into the surrounding rainforest. Take a walk down Regent Street if you get the chance. Not only will you get a feel for...
