Located in South America, Ecuador is named after its equatorial location. The official name of the country, the Republica del Ecuador, translates to the “Republic of the Equator.”

The primary highlight of a visit to Ecuador is a visit to the Galapagos Islands. They are about 1,000 kilometers away from the mainland and have a vast array of endemic species that are quite unique in the world. Be sure to take advantage of the tours available within Galapagos National Park and the Galapagos Marine Reserve during your excursion.

You’ll also want to add Maquipucuna to your list of things to do during your stay. This pristine rainforest is close to Quito and is a cloud forest reserve. This coastal community is quite small, it offers one of the best beaches in the region and the waves almost always seem ready for some fun. The beaches sometimes might be covered in seals getting their sun bathing done for the day. So make sure to be nice and share with them. They also offer great hiking spots for you and the family to take and see more of the beautiful islands and of course more wildlife.
