The Bottom, capital of Saba

Once known as Botte, The Bottom is a unique name for a unique island destination. Serving as the capital of Saba, which is part of the Caribbean Netherlands, about 500 people call this city home on a full-time basis. As the stories are told, Christopher Columbus sighted Saba during his travels, but decided not to explore the island. It wouldn’t be until 1640 when the first settlers would come to The Bottom, only to be evicted by Sir Henry Morgan....

About Saba:

Visiting Saba means exploring dense vegetation and steep crags on this volcanic island.

The summit is almost always covered with clouds, casting brief shadows on the small villages that dot the landscape. In Windwardside, you’ll find timber-houses with red roofs and a white-washed vista.

Snorkeling and diving here means meeting up with sea turtles and other marine life on the islands two coves

It used to be: The Netherlands Antilles

The Netherlands Antilles are a unique group of islands in the Southern Caribbean, including the islands of Saba, Bonaire, and Sint Eustatius. They are considered separate from the other islands of the Dutch Caribbean from a legislative standpoint and an overseas region of the home country. Because of this incorporation, the barriers of travel to these beautiful islands are quite minimal.

During the period of 16th century colonization of the Americas, these islands were dismissed as being useless. They are quite the opposite.

The Netherlands Antilles may also include Aruba and Curacao, each which has its own unique benefits.
