Curacao can be found in the Caribbean Sea, tucked up next to the continent of South America. It is a Dutch island, known for stunning coves, beautiful coral reefs, and extraordinary diving opportunities.

The island boasts an interesting history, visible in the museums and vibrantly painted buildings of the island’s capital, Willemstad. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city is also home to the oldest operating Hebrew synagogue in the Western Hemisphere and several other historic sites. Walking the streets of this colonial treasure, you will hear residents speaking four distinct languages: Dutch, English, Spanish and the indigenous Papiamentu.

You’ll find this colorful island to be filled with numerous adventures. Embark on a culinary adventure, take advantage of the local resorts, or just bake in the sun while enjoying a quiet beach.

The capital city, Willemstad, is a major landmark in Curacao. There are famous carnivals that take place here between the beginning of January and the final days of February or March. These events draw tourists from all over the world. It’s a perfect chance to dance in the street with the locals.

Shopping addicts will also get their fix in Curacao, and then some. There are more than just Dutch-inspired treasures here to gawk at. There is also a famous shopping district, comprising five blocks, called Punda.

Be sure to reserve a day to tour the historic downtown of Willemstad. Established in 1634 when Fort Amsterdam was being constructed, this world heritage site offers a remarkable Dutch colonial atmosphere. Many of the buildings have been well-preserved, allowing one to find the perfect dining spot, coffee shop, or bar to enjoy.

There are 35 beaches in total that can be enjoyed on Curacao and each one offers a unique experience. Playa Knip is arguably the most famous beach on the island and it is difficult to argue with its well-groomed beach, clean waters, and numerous amenities. If you want a taste of the traditional Curacao, consider spending a day on the golden sands of Playa Lagun.

There are national parks to tour in Curacao as well. You can take on a hiking adventure on Christoffelpark, with 8 different trails which offer a different level of difficulty so everyone can be active if they wish.

With an active nightlife, consistent sunshine, and 5-star accommodations, Curacao is an affordable holiday destination in the Caribbean. If you’re looking for a place that can guarantee relaxation, you may not find a better destination.
